This 17.6 km long walking trail is a complete circuit and is duly sign-posted in both directions.
Although one can start anywhere along the trail, it is best to start and end at the Monument commemorating the Battle of Vimeiro.
The trail passes through several towns and hamlets that were the setting for battles between the English army - supported by Portuguese military units - commanded by Wellesley, and the invading French army under Junot.
